The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine (abbreviated as SAHZU) was founded in 1869. As one of the birthplaces of Western medicine in China, the cradle of Western medicine in Zhejiang Province, and the first Grade A tertiary hospital nationwide, it boasts more than 10 national-level platforms. These include the National Key Laboratory of Vascular Implantable Devices, the Industry-Education Integration Innovation Platform for Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Implantable Devices, the Near-physiological Environment In Vitro Simulation Testing System and Platform for Novel Cardiovascular Interventional Implants and Equipment, the Project for Improving the Diagnosis and Treatment Capacity of Complex Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases, the Key Laboratories of the Ministry of Education (Early Warning and Intervention of Malignant Tumors, Early Warning and Intervention of Multiple Organ Failure), the Innovation Center for Basic Medical Research on Digestive System Tumors, the National Emergency Medical Rescue Base, the construction unit of the National Regional Medical Center, and the construction unit of the pilot project of the Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine "Flagship" Hospital.

SAHZU has ranked among the top tier nationwide for six consecutive years in the performance evaluation of tertiary public hospitals. Its "Nature Index" ranks 25th among medical institutions globally. The number of approved projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China has ranked 2nd nationwide for five consecutive years and maintained a leading position across the country for 15 years. It was the designated and on-site medical support unit for the G20 Hangzhou Summit and the core medical support unit for the Hangzhou Asian Games, and is also one of the preferred training bases in China for physicians at home and abroad. It has set national benchmarks for transcatheter heart valve replacement ("Hangzhou Protocol"), complex cataract surgery with minimal incisions, standardized diagnosis and treatment of colorectal tumors, and group severe trauma treatment. The perioperative survival rate of pediatric liver transplantation reaches the international leading level.
