The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine (abbreviated as SAHZU) was founded in 1869. As one of the birthplaces of Western medicine in China, the cradle of Western medicine in Zhejiang Province, and the first Grade A tertiary hospital nationwide, it boasts more than 10 national-level platforms. SAHZU has ranked among the top tier nationwide for six consecutive years in the performance evaluation of tertiary public hospitals. Its "Nature Index" ranks 25th among medical institutions globally. The number of approved projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China has ranked 2nd nationwide for five consecutive years and maintained a leading position across the country for 15 years. It was the designated and on-site medical support unit for the G20 Hangzhou Summit and the core medical support unit for the Hangzhou Asian Games, and is also one of the preferred training bases in China for physicians at home and abroad. The hospital currently has 17 national key clinical specialties/key disciplines. Its clinical service capacity, total number of surgeries, total number of Grade III/IV surgeries, and Case Mix Index (CMI) all rank among the top nationwide. It has set national benchmarks for transcatheter heart valve replacement ("Hangzhou Protocol"), complex cataract surgery with minimal incisions, standardized diagnosis and treatment of colorectal tumors, and group severe trauma treatment. The perioperative survival rate of pediatric liver transplantation reaches the international leading level.
