Core Overview and Geographic Location
Nestled in Nanjing, the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties, with the Purple Mountain at its back and Xuanwu Lake beside it, the General Hospital of Nanjing Military Region of the Chinese People's Liberation Army is a large, modern comprehensive hospital with a long history and coordinated development of medical treatment, teaching and scientific research.
Origin and Early Development
The hospital traces its origins to the Central Hospital of the National Government, which was founded in 1929 and completed in 1930. It was the first national Western medicine hospital established independently by the Chinese people themselves. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, it was successively relocated to Wuhan, Changsha, Guiyang, Chongqing and other places. After Japan's surrender in 1945, it moved back to Nanjing.
Historical Evolution and Qualification Accreditation
In April 1949, the hospital was taken over by the People's Liberation Army. In June 1950, it was named "East China Military Region Hospital". In May 1955, it was renamed "Nanjing Military Region General Hospital". In November 1986, it adopted the name "General Hospital of Nanjing Military Region of the Chinese People's Liberation Army". In 1994, it was among the first batch of hospitals to be accredited as a Grade A Tertiary Hospital.
