Founded by academician Wu Yingkai, the founder of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery in China, Beijing Anzhen Hospital is a Grade A tertiary comprehensive hospital focusing on the treatment of cardiopulmonary and vascular diseases. Establishment and Institutional Foundation
On April 14, 1984, Beijing Anzhen Hospital was officially established as a consortium with the Beijing Institute of Heart, Lung and Blood Vessels. Academician Wu Yingkai was appointed as the first president by the Party Leadership Group of the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau. On November 20 of the same year, with the approval of the Party Leadership Group of the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau, the Party Committee of Beijing Anzhen Hospital was formally founded. The Beijing Institute of Cardiopulmonary and Vascular Medical Research and Beijing Anzhen Hospital shared one Party committee, and Wang Dengdi served as the first Secretary of the Party Committee.
40-Year Development Course and Milestones
Starting from a single "I-shaped building", Beijing Anzhen Hospital performed over 600 cardiac surgeries within just 3 years of its establishment, establishing its leading position among comprehensive hospitals. Only 7 years after its founding, the hospital completed its first and China’s second heart transplant surgery, breaking a 14-year-long medical taboo. Hospital Motto and Cultural Connotation
In 1996, the former president Wu Yingkai put forward the hospital motto of "Integrity, Diligence, Prudence and Integrity". "Integrity" means being fair, impartial, dedicated to public interests and selfless; "Diligence" means being hardworking, diligent, industrious and eager to learn; "Prudence" means being earnest, rigorous, strict and thorough; "Integrity" means being honest and self-disciplined, and practicing medicine with integrity. This motto has become the spiritual origin and cultural foundation of all Anzhen staff.
Tongzhou Campus: Layout and Functional Position
As a key construction project for Beijing to relieve non-capital functions and optimize the layout of the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center, the Tongzhou Campus of Beijing Anzhen Hospital is located in Songzhuang Town, northern part of the Municipal Administrative Center, adjacent to the three northern counties of Langfang in Hebei Province. With a total construction area of approximately 340,000 square meters and 1,300 authorized beds, the campus was officially opened on October 19, 2024 after 4 years of construction. Rooted in the Municipal Administrative Center and radiating services to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Tongzhou Campus further optimizes the layout of medical and health resources, undertaking the tasks of emergency and critical care for cardiovascular diseases and basic medical security for residents in the Municipal Administrative Center and the surrounding Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area.
Clinical Strength and Core Status
Currently, the hospital serves as the National Clinical Research Center for Cardiovascular Diseases and an output hospital for the construction of national regional medical centers. Since 2021, it has ranked first nationwide in the number of single-center surgeries in cardiology and cardiac surgery for three consecutive years. With its medical quality among the top in China and clinical capabilities reaching international first-class standards, the hospital strives to build itself into the final destination for cardiovascular disease treatment.
