Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital (PLAGH), located at No. 28 Fuxing Road, Wanshou Road Sub-district, southern Haidian District, Beijing, is a large modern comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, health care, education, scientific research, prevention, rehabilitation, nuclear, biological and chemical protection, and medical rescue. It is advancing towards building a world-class military hospital.
Historical Origin and Evolution
The predecessor of the hospital was the hospital directly under the Central Military Commission, with its red bloodline tracing back to the August 1st Nanchang Uprising in 1927. It was nurtured and grew arduously amid the flames of war, along with the founding and development of the People's Liberation Army. On August 5, 1953, it was officially established under the cordial care of the founding fathers such as Chairman Mao Zedong, Premier Zhou Enlai and Commander-in-Chief Zhu De. On August 4, 1954, it was renamed the 301st Hospital of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and on June 6, 1957, it was renamed the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital. On November 4, 1958, the Medical Officer Advanced Study Institute was founded (renamed the Chinese People's Liberation Army Medical College in April 2012), marking the beginning of the hospital's educational undertaking.
Institutional Restructuring and Layout
After the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, under the guidance of Xi Jinping's Thought on Strengthening the Army, the hospital has fully entered the fast lane of reform, reconstruction and transformation and development. On November 2, 2018, the newly reorganized and established Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital was announced, which is also known as the Chinese People's Liberation Army Medical College. It has set up the First Medical Center (formerly the Department of Internal Medicine, Department of Surgery, Department of Medical Technology and Outpatient Department), the Second Medical Center (formerly the South Building Clinical Department), the Third Medical Center (formerly the Armed Police General Hospital), the Fourth Medical Center (formerly the 304th Clinical Department), the Fifth Medical Center (formerly the 302nd and 307th Hospitals), the Sixth Medical Center (formerly the Navy General Hospital), the Seventh Medical Center (formerly the Army General Hospital), the Eighth Medical Center (formerly the General Staff General Hospital), Hainan Hospital, Jingdong Medical District, Jingnan Medical District, Jingxi Medical District, Jingbei Medical District, Jingzhong Medical District and the Graduate School.
