Century-Old Heritage and Core Mission
As a century-old hospital dedicated to public welfare, the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (FAH-SYSU for short) was founded in 1910, evolving from the Public Hospital affiliated to the Guangdong Public Medical School. Adhering to the medical motto of "Treat the disease, heal the body and soothe the mind; save the patients, contribute to national salvation and benefit the world", it has now become one of China's top-tier hospitals.
Campus Layout and Institutional Positioning
The hospital currently has three campuses: Yuexiu Main Campus, Huangpu Campus, and Nansha Campus. It has co-established the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University Guangxi Hospital and the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University Guizhou Hospital with Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Guizhou Province respectively, striving to build national regional medical centers. Boasting strong comprehensive strength, the hospital is a candidate institution for the development of the National Medical Center (guidance category), a pilot hospital for the high-quality development of national public hospitals, and a pilot hospital for establishing and improving the modern hospital management system. It also serves as a construction unit for the National Project for Enhancing the Capacity of Diagnosing and Treating Difficult and Complicated Diseases, a pilot unit of the national flagship hospital for the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and a supporting institution for the National Human Tissue and Organ Transplantation and Medical Big Data Center. Additionally, it is among the first batch of key construction units for high-level hospitals in Guangdong Province and a construction unit for the Guangdong International Precision Medicine Center.
Disciplinary Advantages and Performance Achievements
With prominent disciplinary advantages, the hospital has 5 national key disciplines and 36 national key clinical specialties. It has made significant contributions to Sun Yat-sen University's basic medicine and clinical medicine being selected as "Double First-Class" construction disciplines and clinical medicine entering the top 0.5‰ of ESI globally. For five consecutive years, it has been rated A++ in the performance evaluation of national tertiary public hospitals.
"Campaign Science" Concept and Development Initiatives
The hospital has innovatively proposed the concept of "campaign science" to guide the establishment of the National Medical Center: taking the "Four Orientations" put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping as the guiding ideology, implementing the Party's health and health work guidelines in the new era, and adhering to the guiding principles of "strengthening talents, emphasizing basic research, promoting clinical practice, building platforms, facilitating interdisciplinary integration, advancing transformation, and improving evaluation mechanisms".
